Six US Girls, Three US Boys into Final Round of US Open Junior Qualifying; Three Canadians Reach Finals at Repentigny Grade 1

Saturday's final round of qualifying for the US Open Junior Championships has nine American juniors still in the hunt for a spot in the main draw.

Three US boys advanced in Friday's first round of qualifying: JJ Wolf, Emil Reinberg and Zeke Clark.  Wolf, a wild card, moved into Saturday's final round when No. 13 seed Corrado Summaria of Italy retired trailing 6-1, 4-0.  Reinberg, the No. 14 seed, defeated Benjamin Sigouin of Canada 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, and Clark, another wild card recipient, defeated No. 9 seed Alexander Lazarov of Bulgaria 2-6, 6-4, 4-1 ret.

Wolf will play No. 2 seed Yibing Wu of China, Reinberg faces No. 6 seed Alex De Minaur of Australia and Clark plays unseeded Nicola Kuhn of Germany.

Top seed Alberto Lim of the Philippines was beaten by Bjorn Thomson of Ireland 0-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Six US girls advanced to the final round and two are guaranteed to qualify due to the all-American matchups.  Wild card Amanda Anisimova defeated No. 2 seed Maria Herazo Gonazalez of Colombia 6-1, 6-2 and will play No. 15 seed Maria Mateas, who defeated Yanni Liu of China by the same score.

Olivia Hauger, who beat No. 6 seed Oana Gavrila of Romania 6-4, 6-3, will play wild card Natasha Subhash in a second all-USA match. Subhash defeated No. 9 seed Mihika Yadav of India 6-4, 6-2.

Sofia Sewing took out No. 5 seed Thaisa Pedretti of Brazil 6-3, 6-2 and will play Ana Paula Neffa De Los Rios of Paraguay.  Wild card Carson Branstine had one of the toughest wins of the day, beating No. 10 seed Mayuka Aikawa of Japan 7-6(9), 5-7, 6-2. Branstine will play No. 3 seed Ioana Pietroiu of Romania in Saturday's final round.

Top qualifying seed Georgia Craciun of Romania was defeated by Valentini Grammatikopoulou of Greece 6-4, 6-1.  Grammatikopoulou received entry into the qualifying based on her WTA ranking, which is currently at 438.

Play begins at 10 a.m. on the practice courts outside the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, near the east entrance. There is no admission charge.  Live scoring for the junior qualifying is available at usopen.org.

In the women's draw, Serena Williams(1), Venus Williams(23) and Madison Keys(19) reached the fourth round, while Madison Brengle lost to qualifier Anett Kontaveit of Estonia. Qualifier Shelby Rogers and Varvara Lepchenko play their third round matches Saturday.

In women's doubles, USTA National 18s champions Tornado Alicia Black and Ingrid Neel gave a good account of themselves against No. 7 seeds Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic, but lost their second round match 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

In men's doubles, Sam Querrey and Steve Johnson, who beat the Bryans in a first round encounter, are through to the third round, where they'll play the wild card team of Michael Russell and Donald Young.

At the ITF Grade 1 in Repentigny, Canada, qualifier Gianni Ross lost to Felix Auger Aliassime of Canada, who won the International Hard Court Championships last week, 6-3, 6-1.  The unseeded Auger Aliassime will play No. 5 seed Mate Valkusz of Hungary in the final.   The girls final is all-Canadian, with No. 11 seed Bianca Andreescu facing No. 2 seed Charlotte Robillard-Millette. That is a rematch of a Grade 1 final in France this spring, which Robillard-Millette won 6-4, 7-5.
